2021 Networking Specialist Job Task Analysis Survey

CEDIA is committed to ensuring the ongoing accuracy and relevance of each certification and education pathway. The knowledge and skills needed to design, configure, secure and troubleshoot wired and wireless networks are as essential as ever for residential technology integrators. In 2021, CEDIA began working on a complete revision which will result in a new certification being released in 2022.

Survey Details

The survey link will be posted here and will be open from August 2 – September 30, 2021. The survey will take about 20-30 minutes to complete.

Participants who complete the survey are eligible to be entered into a random drawing for one of two $200 Visa Gift cards. Read the official contest rules. Individuals with a current CEDIA Certification will earn 1 CEU for completing the survey.

Who Should Participate?

CEDIA is looking for individuals with at least two years of experience with residential networking. In addition to understanding the technical concepts, participants should be familiar with the daily activities of a technician working in a residence and be able to identify which tasks are most frequently conducted and critical for competent performance.

Survey Results

CEDIA will use the information gathered on this survey to produce an updated networking certification exam and corresponding educational resources. The job task analysis framework will be finalized and published in late September after the survey results have been collected, analyzed and approved by a committee of qualified and representative subject matters. Individuals interested in participating on this committee should contact CEDIA Certification at certification@cedia.org

Networking Job Analysis Task Force

In partnership with Kryterion Global Testing Solutions, CEDIA conducted a Job Task Analysis to produce an updated and comprehensive outline of these knowledge and skills. This process was led by the Networking Job Analysis Task Force and included an industry-wide survey. CEDIA would like to thank the task force members and additional SMEs who have volunteered significant amounts of time on this project.

2022 Certification Exam Update

An updated exam blueprint will be published at the end of 2021 and starting in 2022 the exam will be updated to match the new outline. The Certification Commission will also be evaluating related policies such as eligibility and renewal which will come into effect with the release of the updated exam. The new version of the exam will be ready for beta testing in summer 2021.

CEDIA is currently recruiting individuals to join 2022 Networking Specialist Exam Development Task Force to complete this revision. Existing ESC-N holders are highly encouraged to participate, as are other individuals with a strong networking background.

The current ESC-N will continue to be offered until the new version is ready. Individuals who have not yet earned certification are highly encouraged to first earn the CEDIA Integrated Systems Technician (IST) certification which includes a section covering basic networking concepts. The updated version of the Networking Specialist will continue to be focused on intermediate to advanced networking concepts in the residential environment.
