The purpose of this course is to educate participants about the types of cable and connectors, and their industry standards, used in low-voltage installations. Topics covered in this course include cable type, construction, impedance, attenuation, and proper termination.

At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the physical construction of cables and wires through the use of basic industry terminology
  • Describe the characteristics of cable performance metrics including: interference, bandwidth, throughput, and attenuation
  • Compare and Contrast the construction, performance, and connector types for the various cables; Coaxial, General Purpose, twisted pair, fiber optic, and specialty cable which includes USB, DVI, HDMI, SDI, and Display Port
