In this panel filled with industry giants we will discuss the different options for energy creation - including wind, solar, generators, and geothermal - and the ways to store and best utilize this energy. We will touch on battery technologies as well as ways to use Electric Vehicles as home backup. Finally we will look to the future of home energy creation, storage, and usage, including DC microgrids.

Chris is a Senior Analyst with Parks Associates, covering the smart home and smart energy markets. He was previously a Director of Insights at PeopleMetrics in Philadelphia and the Data Manager of a youth-serving collaborative in New Orleans. He leverages this background in marketing research and data gathering to contribute to the design of Parks Associates consumer surveys.

Chris earned his BBA in Marketing from the College of William & Mary and his MBA in Marketing and Finance from American University.

Anna Demeo

Anna Demeo, Ph.D.

Anna Demeo is the CTO of Savant. Parent company to GE Lighting, Savant delivers smart home and smart power solutions across the residential sector.

Prior to Savant, Anna was the co-founder and president of Racepoint Energy, which developed an advanced flexible load management platform to monitor and control distributed energy resources for scalable microgrid and utility applications. 

Now part of the Savant family as Savant Power,  the team is reimagining the concept of smart power as a key component of the smart living experience for the modern home. Anna is an associate professor of Sustainable Design Engineering at UPEI and was a visiting professor at the Energy Center at EPFL, a science and technology institution in Switzerland.

Joe Piccirilli

Joseph Piccirilli is an accomplished entrepreneur, consultant, strategist, and speaker with a 50-year career that spans the consumer electronics, systems integration and energy industries.

Joe co-founded distributor AVAD, which grew to over $200M in sales through 30 North American warehouses. During his tenure as Managing Director of AVAD, he arranged and negotiated the company’s sale to Ingram Micro Systems, a Fortune 100 company.

Piccirilli then began to study the causes and effects of the deteriorating power quality in North America. In particular, the damage poor power quality causes in automated residences. That research led him to co-found Rosewater Energy Group. Today, Rosewater Energy provides the most complete energy management system on the market.

Rene Rieck is an electrical engineer with over 27 years of experience in the industry. He worked as design and commissioning engineer, product developer and lecturer in the KNX building automation business around the world. In his role as the product manager at Alexander Maier GmbH he his responsible for the development of the EisBaer Software suite.

Adam lives in Colorado where he enjoys snowboarding and live music in his free time.

Andre Hanel

Coming from an engineering background Andre has worked for several years as an embedded developer in the domain of automation and building control, later as a project lead for body controllers in the automotive industry. Today Andre is responsible together with the KNX members for the KNX IoT development, here with a strong scope on energy management related applications.

His passion is to make the integration/configuration of EM related appliances for end customers as easy as possible and understandable. To achieve this, he also uses some self-teaching experience from his own EM “gadgets” at home, such as a heat pump, e-storage, wall box or photo voltaic systems.
