How They Did It: Sound Sense Showroom

Ed Wenck | Jan 31, 2019

The objective for this showroom was to create an experience center that would provide clients with an understanding of customization and integration of technology in the home. Sound Sense spent a lot of time researching the demographics of their potential customers and their income to know what level to pitch the design and technology. Their efforts garnered them a 2018 CEDIA Award for Best Showroom.

Visitors are welcomed into the entrance having experienced the TCS video door phone and eKEY biometric finger scanner. Automatic sliding doors lead them into a foyer that features automated lighting and background music.

Sound Sense designed a living room, conference room, directors’ cabin, and dedicated cinema room. The living room features an in-wall TV and a discreet Totem 7.4.4 Dolby Atmos setup. Two side-by-side dropdown screens from Screen Research and a hidden Sony projector offer home cinema options that can be compared simultaneously. A third main dropdown screen has been installed in the center of the room. While the conference room is set up to facilitate meetings, the directors’ cabin showcases the benefits of programmed curtains, lighting, and a hidden pop-up TV that becomes visible thanks to a Future Automation lift. The cinema room features eight seats and a masking screen with an immersive 9.4.6 Wisdom Audio set up.

The showroom is controlled through a one-touch concept that is showcased via an iPad and a Crestron keypad. The GUI controls input source selection, input source change, playlist selection, volume control, music through Airplay, motorized screens, TV lifts, hidden mirror TVs, curtains, room temperature, lighting control, and more.
