How They Did It: Double Duty

Entertainment is key in this whole-home integration, and the centerpiece is a family room that’s tied to a game room. “This large entertaining space had to be outfitted with great video options,” says the team at DSI. “We designed a dual display system that includes an 85-inch Sony XBR TV for daily viewing and a 135-inch projection screen that comes out of the floor under a motorized hatch for ‘big event’ movie nights.”

The client wanted TVs nearly everywhere, and the equipment list includes Samsung Frame TVs, Sony OLEDs, Seura Mirror, Seura Hydra (for the shower), and Seura Storm outdoor TVs. Sixteen zones of audio are fed by Savant music servers that deliver music to Sonance and Clark Synthesis Underwater speakers.

A Ruckus network system was installed, as were CCTV and alarms for security. All the home’s HVAC zones are integrated into the Savant control system, and lighting control and the home’s 32 Lutron Sivoia shades control brightness and react to the warming of the sun. DSI picked up a Finalist nod in the 2018 CEDIA Awards (Integrated Home, Level III, Americas) for this project.
