CEDIA would like to congratulate the medalists of this year’s SkillsUSA Internet of Things (IOT) and Smart Home Competition, which took place at SkillsUSA’s 58th Annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, GA from June 20-24. There were more than 5,200 career and technical education (CTE) students attending. CEDIA has been a competition supporter since 2019.
The IOT and Smart Home Competition is a multi-faceted contest judged and scored on the installation, setup, operation, and troubleshooting of various products including IOT/Smart Home devices, networking, AV, and security equipment. Judges pay special attention to proper cable termination, as well as basic home safety requirements such as proper grounding and cable routing. There’s also a written exam that tests participants general knowledge on: Computer Networking Fundamentals, Audio and Video, Home Security and Surveillance Systems, Telecommunications Standards, Structured Wiring (Low and High Voltage), and overall Systems Integration.
SkillsUSA is a national education association with over 390,000 members in more than 17,000 classrooms. The association serves middle school, high school, and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations. SkillsUSA has chapters in each state and is a member of WorldSkills, a global education association with members in 85 countries.
CEDIA’s continued involvement with SkillsUSA is helping the association promote our industry locally, nationally, and globally. CEDIA members and industry partners, especially those seeking creative ways to find new talent, are strongly encouraged to get involved with a SkillsUSA Chapter or WorldSkills Affiliate in their area.
