Course Overview

The CEDIA Integrated Systems Technician School and supplemental textbook have been developed to provide CIT-certified technicians with a highly dynamic hybrid learning experience. This educational pathway supports technicians and industry professionals with a desire to continue the journey of professional certification in the field of systems integration. 

Registration grants you access to CEDIA's Integrated Systems Technician Pathway on our newly developed online Learning Management System (LMS) with over 20 hours of technical education, designed to reduce lengthy classroom time as well as allowing for completion in an asynchronous, self-paced environment.

The online portion of this course’s content has a strong focus on providing the specific technical knowledge necessary to effectively carry out the duties of a lead technician dealing with the various applications of technology installation, integration, and configuration.

Upon completion of the online prerequisite, registrants will then attend one of CEDIA’s IST workshops.
The in-person portion of this course’s content is taught by CEDIA certified subject matter experts to support and expand upon the vast technical knowledge from the LMS. This five-day workshop involves comprehensive hands-on lab activities that are designed to accurately simulate on-the-job tasks in a risk-free environment.

By the completion of this course, registrants should be able to safely and effectively lead other technicians when working with IT networking, distributed audio systems, lighting, motorization, energy management, systems programming and control, home cinema as well as systems commissioning for project completion. This education pathway provides a strong foundation for technicians who are interested in advancing their career through a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of systems integration. You are not required to take any courses before taking your exam. CEDIA does not guarantee success on exams to individuals who use CEDIA resources and training materials. Certification

Included with this product package is a voucher for the CEDIA Certified Integrated Systems Technician exam. Certification represents competency in a defined set of knowledge and skills, adherence to the CEDIA Certification Code of Conduct and an ongoing commitment to professional growth. Candidates for this certification must currently hold the CIT Certification, meet the experience eligibility requirement, and submit a sperate application before they can be approved to take the proctored exam.

A two-hour exam session will be offered by Certification staff on the last day of this event for eligible candidates. CEDIA exams may also be scheduled with Kryterion Global Testing Solutions.

There are two primary models used to describe communications within a network — the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, which breaks down the various stages of communication within a network using seven layers of communication processes, and the TCP/IP model, which is similar, but uses only four layers. While either can be used to describe an IP network, this module employs the full seven-layer model since it can also be used to describe other networks such as Bluetooth, ZigBee, and Z-Wave. Developing a full understanding of the OSI model will be useful when working with other networks in the future.
