60 Seconds with CEDIA Volunteer Ian Bryant

Mar 25, 2016

To show our appreciation for our volunteers, we turn the spotlight on them from time to time and learn what drives them day in and day out. Today, we meet volunteer Ian Bryant of Simplified Concepts.

A volunteer since 2008, Bryant currently volunteers in support of CEDIA Awards and CEDIA Training.

Why do you volunteer?

I enjoy giving back to the industry, spreading what I know and things I have learned through the years. I know when I first started in the industry, the few people that gave me a little of their time made a huge difference.

Volunteering also gives me things in return. I learn from so many other volunteers, I get to make amazing business connections, and I have made lifelong friends. In addition, I have been given opportunities that I would have never gotten to do otherwise.

What’s your favorite CEDIA memory?

It’s not a single moment, but I would have to say the year Frank White and I did Old School vs. New School. It was a blast working with Frank that year. I got to spend a lot of time with him at the show and we developed a friendship that has lasted through the years.

What’s your advice for new volunteers?

Have fun! There can be some stressful moments in any volunteering opportunity, but remember to have fun. If you need any help or advice, there are tons of us here to lend a hand.

What would be the title of your autobiography?

Mistakes Happen

What songs are on the soundtrack to your life?

So Many Roads, Life by the Drop, Rain When I Die, Safe Place

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Buenos Aires, Argentina

What was the first thing you bought with your own money?

Probably some candy or something.

What would we find in your refrigerator right now?

Fresh fruits, vegetables, grilled chicken, and hummus.

What phrase do you use the most?

"Just doing the best I can."

What is your all-time funniest prank?

It’s still in progress: Convincing everyone I actually know what I’m talking about.

What?  Ian, you don't know what you're talking about?  I don't believe that for a minute!  Always a pleasure working with you and all of our great volunteers.
