Aug 21, 2017

With CEDIA 2017 around the corner it’s that time of year to sit down and make a game plan for what you want to get out of the show. There is never a shortage of interesting classes and events to attend, but now is also the perfect time take a broader look at career goals for you and your employees. Earning a professional certification is a natural fit for those wanting to guide and motivate their learning and walk away with tangible recognition for areas of expertise.

CEDIA’s certifications are available year-round, but the convenience of taking the exam on-site and the availability of in-person review sessions means that there’s no better place to make that career goal a reality. Here’s a few tips to get started:

1. Select the certification that fits with where you are at in your career. CEDIA’s four certifications hit on different areas of knowledge and range from entry-level to advanced.

2. Use the pre-test assessment. This free tool is available with each exam and can give you an idea of how ready you are and where you might need to brush up.

3. Get the study book. The Fundamentals of Residential Electronic Systems book is perfect for the ESC exam and Advanced Residential Electronic Systems goes deeper to support areas covered on the ESC-T, ESC-N and ESC-D.

4. Take classes online or at CEDIA 2017 to fill in areas where you need to grow. Each exam has an Exam Prep guide to direct you to online classes and you can use this search tool to find specific topics in this year’s lineup of over 150 classes.

5. Sign up for the half-day review class offered on Friday, September 8.
The review's included in the Training Pass and is a great opportunity to refresh your knowledge on all the areas covered and ask questions to an industry veteran.

6. Take the timed, proctored exam on Friday or Saturday during the show. The exams are 100 multiple-choice questions and results are available immediately upon completion.

7. Let people know about your accomplishment. Don’t be afraid to brag on your employees. CEDIA has new tools that make it easy to share your certification on social media, and you will want to take a full inventory of where you can enhance your brand with the CEDIA Certified message.
