This project from Advanced Technologies
was first and foremost about security — and, of course, reliability. What’s one without the other? Cameras throughout the property, when coupled with motion detectors, monitor for any activity in any zone the homeowner chooses. If “Away” or “Vacation” functions are chosen, that activity will be met with a voice response of “YOU HAVE BEEN DETECTED. LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.”
Additionally, “There are motion sensors facing entry areas, in corridors; flex sensors under steps illuminate the stairwell. The garage roll-up doors are sensed and controlled. Also, there are sensors to monitor the refrigerators and freezers for failure,” says the integrator.
The client also wanted “an end-to-end 18 gig video distribution system,” meaning that, in addition to the 4K cameras, multiple 4K TVs deliver content throughout the home. Eight audio zones and one surround-sound zone were also integrated. The challenge here? Even though it was a new build, the client waited until after the sheetrock was up to ask for distributed audio, which meant a good bit of fishing cables and crawling between trusses for the techs. Advanced Technologies was also responsible for integrating Amazon Echos and Dots into the project.
The automation in this home elicits the word “Terrific!” from one CEDIA judge, and the project won the 2018 CEDIA Award for Best Integrated Home, Level I ($150,000 and under).
