Help Us Help You — The Size and Scope Survey Closes Soon

Last year’s CEDIA Size and Scope of the Residential Technology Systems Market survey was packed with useful info for integrators. Grant Farnsworth of The Farnsworth Group finds the following:

  • There’s been slow, steady growth in the channel for the last few years – firms have gotten slightly smaller and somewhat older,
  • On a scale of 1-10, business confidence for the next 12-18 months comes in at 8.9 for the U.S,
  • Security is a segment getting traction – in 2017, the median number of installs in this category clocked in at 15 projects in the U.S., and
  • Lighting has gotten to be big business in the U.S., with roughly half of firms working on these systems.
Those kind of stats can help a firm adjust its business model to take full advantage of market conditions – it’s why both participation in the survey is just as important as reviewing it. As Cris Pyle, CEDIA’s vice president of marketing and industry relations notes, "As the industry continues to evolve, the information from the survey becomes increasingly critical — we need both members and non-members to participate. The results will bolster our ability to serve the needs of the industry at large."

That last part is another key: Last year’s survey confirmed that the biggest challenge for US integrators still finding and keeping workers: 29% of firms say it’s a challenge in America. Data like this helps CEDIA adjust its strategy to best serve the custom install business.

The survey takes 15 minutes, and there’s benefits for those who take a moment to complete it: Participants will receive a copy of the report (a $1,000 value) and be entered in a drawing to a $500 American Express card.

The survey, which you can connect to at cediasizeandscope.com, is intended for professionals in the United States and Canada. Participants do not need to be CEDIA members. CEDIA is using a third-party to conduct the survey and has no access to your responses, and individual responses will be released only in combination with all survey responses. The survey will close on August 23, 2019 and preliminary results will be shared at CEDIA Expo in September.
