How They Did It: Edge Cottage

The objective was to provide a fully integrated home as part of a complete renovation and expansion of an existing property. The client wanted to use the power and versatility of a Crestron system to integrate all media, security, and lifestyle requirements.

Intuitive Homes and Ultamation teamed up to provide a solution, winning both a CEDIA Award for Best Integrated Home Level II (EMEA), and a Global trophy, too.
As the family entertains frequently, Intuitive Homes and Ultamation implemented a “follow me” feature on the Crestron TSW touch panels, so that they can start their evening in the kitchen and then move to the entertainment building and have their music or background video follow them. This was achieved by utilizing the Bluetooth pinpoint beacons on the panels and the Bluetooth integration on the Crestron app.
The video distribution is handled via Crestron DigitalMedia with six inputs and eight outputs, while the audio is done by 14 zones of Crestron Sonnex comprising an 8+2 zone main unit and four zone expansion. The entertainment building features three Sonnex zones of audio in the same area, comprised of floorstanding speakers, ceiling speakers, and also the TV soundbar. As two sides of the building are glazed sliding doors, Intuitive Homes and Ultamation also had to consider external speakers for this space. The formal lounge benefits from a TV on a Future Automation lift that raises the TV out of a built-in bookcase and rotates it to the predefined viewing angle.
All rooms with TVs have their own handheld controllers, either a button only HR150 to provide control over the video, audio, and lighting sources, or a TSR-302 remote with a screen that adds CCTV, gate access, and heating controls.
