Home Insurance for Smart Homes? Meet Locket.

CEDIA | Jun 13, 2022

We're excited to introduce our UK audience to Locket.

Smarter homes are safer homes. That’s the idea behind Locket home insurance , an insurtech created by smart home enthusiasts, for smart home enthusiasts.

Locket wants to give you a better price on your home insurance just for owning popular smart home devices like video doorbells, cameras and connected smoke detectors. It’s the brainchild of ex-CEDIA board member Krystian Zajac, who has also gathered alumni from leading smart home brands like Control4, Ring and Samsung SmartThings to the cause.

“Our data shows people who own one or more smart devices are up to 35% less likely to suffer a major insurance claim”, says Zajac. “We believe it’s past time for home insurers to start sharing those savings with customers.” Locket has already assembled an alliance of leading smart home manufacturers including Ring, Yale, Lightwave and Philips Hue, and says it plans to add many more over the coming months.

Smart home experts wanted

True to its smart home roots, Locket is also currently seeking CEDIA members and smart home industry insiders to join an expert panel called the Locket Insiders Programme.

Locket Insiders will help to shape the future of connected home insurance, and take place in a groundbreaking study into the protective effects of smart home technology. To that end, Locket will send successful applicants a range of free smart devices to help protect their homes - such as Ring video doorbells or the Sonic whole-home leak detection system - and then collect data on the effectiveness of each device in service. The year-long study is thought to be one of the most comprehensive ever undertaken on the subject. It’s currently open to UK homeowners.

What’s next for Locket?

Locket saw out 2021 with a successful crowdfunding raise on Seedrs. Zajac says the company will use the funds to develop partnerships with more leading smart home brands and launch new products, such as insurance for AirBnB hosts that automatically adjusts the level of cover to reflect whether you have guests or not. “The goal is for your home insurance to adjust and respond to your needs in the same way your smart home does now”, says Zajac. “Self-driving insurance”.
