Launches Beta Phase of Performance Facts, Marks ‘New Era’ of Entertainment Space Design
FISHERS, Ind. (JUNE 3, 2021) — CEDIA has launched a beta version of Performance Facts in its acclaimed home cinema and media room design software, The CEDIA Designer (TCD). Product selection in entertainment space design has historically been determined by subjective measures like brand preference and budget. Performance Facts represents a breakthrough that allows product selection to be based on performance objectives by presenting quantifiable data from manufacturers to entertainment space designers and decision-makers — a first for the industry.
The first phase of the initiative will include product categories such as speakers, amplifiers, and processors.
The joint CEDIA/Consumer Technology Association (CTA) standards group, known as the Residential Systems Committee or R10, has been hard at work developing a comprehensive Performance Facts initiative (called RP1). This ongoing effort is defining much-needed parameters a designer/engineer needs to utilize a piece of equipment effectively in a design. Made up of integrators, manufactures, engineers, and others, the group’s participants represent a broad base of knowledge and expertise. This effort will identify the minimum critical equipment parameters for Performance Facts compliance, as well as the test that should be used for measurement.

Performance Facts is in its beta stage currently, but plans call for the feature to roll out permanently in TCD once more brands share their objective data and come aboard.
CEDIA is encouraging existing TCD brands interested in serving as Performance Facts pioneers to contact email@example.com. By coordinating information sharing for potential inclusion in the feature and proactively participating in the early phases of the Performance Facts initiative, manufacturer partners have the opportunity to provide input that will shape the future of Performance Facts and its impact on helping quality brand data rise to the top. Manufacturers not currently in TCD who want their products available in the database for TCD users to specify on projects can also contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
